Hearts in Hawai'i
State Park #1--Split Rock State Park
9/26/2001
Known mostly for the Lighthouse which has been featured in so many photos taken by camera enthusiasts, beginners and professionals, Split Rock State Park is a short 47 mile drive up the North Shore from Duluth, Minnesota. Your State Park pass gives you access to the park itself but if you want to visit the grounds, it will set you back an additional $8. Accessing the Lighthouse will cost you $15.
There are a number of trails which run along the Lake Superior shoreline affording views of the Lighthouse, but there is some excellent hiking to be found inland as well! A short 0.5 mile spur connects to the Superior Hiking Trail. There are other trails which lead you inland, also. We stuck close to the shore but I'd love to check out the spur to the SHT at some point.
The Lighthouse is the main reason a vast majority of people visit this park
