Hearts in Hawai'i
Our Trip to Hawai'i (2007)--Day 22

Final Full Day
One final full day in Hawai`i--we chatted about how it'd be nice to stay five or six more days. The thing is, no matter how long you stay, eventually you're packing those bags and heading home to the mainland--a sad fact of every vacation!
The usual breakfast--I miss those free buffets at the Outrigger Keauhou--then a short walk before heading out for one more drive in search of picture venues. I hit two beaches south of Lahaina before proceeding to Wailea Beach. A wave of nostalgia and good feeling hits me seeing that hillside once again where we were married in 1996. It's a perfect sunny day. I walked the Wailea beachwalk almost to the Kea Lani. There were many other tourists out walking here, but it has a different feel from Lahaina and other areas where you'd find more locals. They're more abrupt and self-absorbed. To me, it's a big contrast from Lahaina--sort of sad.

To Iao Valley again, hoping for the sun to shine just long enough to get that great picture of the Needle I wasn't able to get three days ago. I got back to Lahaina at noon, so managed to squeeze in more sun soaking until just before 3:00.
Compadres
After cleaning up, we took off on foot, not sure exactly where we wanted to go; Longhi's? Ruth's Chris? We're sort of in the mood for Mexican tonight so we checked out the menu at Cilantro's on Papalaua Avenue and weren't really impressed. Eventually, we ended up at Compadres at the Lahaina Cannery Mall. The service was good, the food was mediocre. [note: since this trip, Compadres has closed. It's no loss to Lahaina in our opinion]
One final sunset and it was a very nice one. It's Monday night, so of course Dancing With The Stars was on; Patty was riveted to the TV while I got caught up on this journal and a few other things. I needed to stay up late because I wanted to sleep in late tomorrow--it's going to be one long-arsed day.
