Pacific Whale Foundation Dinner Cruise
Following the ritualistic long walk on the beach this morning and some more sun worshipping, we headed over to the Lahaina Harbor for our 5:30 dinner cruise on the Discovery, operated by the Pacific Whale Foundation. M.K.'s (from the Expedia desk at the Lahaina Shores) advice to not pay the extra $30/person for premium seating was right on the mark. We still got to sit outside on the upper deck; as it turned out, cool breezes sent most everybody scurrying for the shelter of the lower deck before the night was through. The dinner is buffet style, starting with bread sticks and spinach and artichoke dip (which Patty wouldn't touch because it "looked" gross) but turned out to be excellent. The main course featured Caesar salad, oven roasted potatoes, Cajun spiced grilled steaks and grilled teriyaki chicken. With the exception of the steak which was far too chewy, all the items were top-notch. We saw a couple whales and one heckuva nice sunset. But comparing this cruise to the Cocktail cruise (which is $20 cheaper), we prefer the cocktail cruise on the Ocean Quest. Rating: 7
Setting sail!
A nice sunset from the boat
A quick trip to the Livewire Internet Cafe on Front Street so we could email some folks back home rounded out the day (Rub it in? Not us! ) ended a fun evening.
