The Move--Sep. 22
9/22/2010
Getting pre-approved for our loan was a breeze. With our employment history (both having over twenty years with the same employer), credit scores and current obligations (we had no current obligations), we were given an absurd maximum monthly payment the bank said we could afford!
We're drawn to the townhouse again and again. Any time there is an excuse to drive up to Proctor and check it out, we do so. Peering in through the windows, wondering what the appliances (supplied by the sellers) would look like, getting a basic feel of how we would arrange the furniture, the place is constantly on our minds.
The numbers look good and our ability to afford this place is rock-solid. We have no major concerns regarding this townhouse, only minor quibbles, which in time would be answered to our satisfaction.
But we're also constantly on edge. How would the negotiation process work? Once our offer is accepted (if it is accepted), how long would it take to close? We have a desired date in mind which would allow us to move in and get settled before Thanksgiving. But we obviously don't want to appear desperate. We don't want to tip our hand, to give the sellers' agent the impression we aren't considering other options. There are other places to consider, possibly.
It's tiring.
