Our Trip to Maui (2012)--Day 2

Pioneer Inn
Patty was up and raring to go at 6:30 this morning. Enjoying the early morning stillness on the lanai with a cup of Kona coffee is always a great way to start a Maui morning! We walked over to the Pioneer Inn for breakfast. Patty planned on having "just coffee" but ended up helping me with my two enormous pancakes. I also had two eggs over-easy, country sausage and toast. Very filling and good and under $20, verifying that the Pioneer Inn is my favorite breakfast place on Maui.
Unwinding and Getting Acclimated
Following a fairly long 1 1/2 hour walk on the beach, we visited the front desk and got most of our money secured in a safe deposit box. Allison was working the check-in desk this morning so we chatted with her for a brief time. Some changes have been made outside in the yard since our last visit; first, the hedges around the pool area had been removed and replaced with a few planted trees. It really opens up the pool area, making it much more appealing. Second, the outside shower had been replaced with a newer, nicer one and moved to the other side of the gate leading down to the beach.
Sun time, nap time, shower and dinner at Bubba Gumps were on the agenda for the remainder of the day.
Happy to be here once again!
Between the jet lag and all the walking I did today, I got sick when I laid out in the sun, after only about 40 minutes. Heart was racing and I felt weak, so I went back up to the room, took a shower, and then a nap. Felt better after an hour of napping. We kicked back for a while. I chalk this up to a combination of jet lag and a little dehydration.
Bubba Gumps
Wait staff at Bubba Gumps seated us immediately upon arriving just before 6:00. Patty had the soup and salad; soup was clam chowder which she liked a lot. I had the Caesar Salad which came in a huge bowl, followed by Lieutenant Dans Drunken Shrimp, shrimp and andouille sausage on top of mashed potatoes with a Kentucky bourbon sauce. Fantastic! We didn't have a window seat which was fine by us as we were a little sunned out by then. Bubba Gumps is a fun place at which to dine. The “Run Forrest Run” and “Stop Forrest Stop” signs on your table alleviate what can be a sometimes irritating tendency by wait staff to ask if you need anything. Just flip the sign to the appropriate side and they know if you require attention. It can get a bit loud in there, so don‘t consider this if you’re looking for a romantic venue. It’s a place to kick back, have a little fun and eat some good food.
Great view at Bubba Gumps
