Our Trip To Maui (2018)--Day 16
5/20/2018

By the time Patty awakened at 7:20, I had finished breakfast and was sipping my morning coffee out on the lanai. It was nother beautiful day here in paradise, with few clouds. I think that, with the strengthening trade winds, a few leeward showers could happen today, especially later this afternoon.

We headed out for our Front Street walk, getting as far as Longs' Drugs in the Cannery Mall before returning. We got a later start than we'd like, and with the winds still light, it was hot walking!

The walk complete, Patty headed out into the sun and I took a quick nap. She returned to the room at 1 p.m. so I got out of bed and headed outside for an hour of tanning. We get cleaned up and watched an episode of Scandal before heading over to the harbor for our cocktail cruise with the Pacific Whale Foundation. We had done a cocktail cruise on the Ocean Spirit two years ago and really liked it, so this was an easy choice when it came time to decide who to do a cocktail cruise with on this trip.

Lahaina Courthouse

The setup of this boat was really nice, likewise the stability. Having it leave from the Lahaina Harbor is an added bonus as we don't have to drive to Ka`anapali or Ma`alaea--it's a short ten minute walk from the Lahaina Shores. With the Small Craft Advisory issued this morning and the increasing winds during the day, I was concerned the cruise may be canceled, but the winds died down in the late afternoon, so this wasn't a problem. It was mostly cloudy, however, by the time we boarded the boat.

There was no alcohol served on this boat, but people were allowed to bring their own on board. Plenty of juices and soft drinks were available, so we were happy, not being alcohol imbibers. Plus, there was POG. What else did we need? Their pupus included Spring Rolls, Kalua Pork Quesadillas and Ahi Bruschetta. These were the best pupus we've had on any cocktail cruise on Maui.

At one point, we were standing at the back of the boat and I noticed we were next to a guy brandishing a Nikon camera. "What kind of Nikon?" I asked. "D7100" he replied. How did I not know he was carrying the same camera I was? We engaged in a lengthy talk about cameras, lenses, shooting techniques, etc. He was on this cruise with his wife, their daughter and his parents. They live in Chicago but he's a Vikings fan. Poor guy.

The conversation was nice and didn't end until we returned to the Harbor. Overall, it was one of our favorite cruises. Back in the room, we lazed about until our 11 p.m. bed time. What a great day!
