Our Trip To Maui (2018)--Day 19

Our final full day on Maui started with a walk over to 808 Grindz Cafe for breakfast. The deal here is, you show up and add your name to the list, then wait for your name to be called. We're the third group in line, and spent some time talking with a couple from California. They, like us, will be leaving tomorrow. He's a CPA so we talked about accounting for a short time while waiting for the doors to open.
They were 20 minutes late getting open today due to an unexpected staffing shortage. Patty didn't feel like eating so she just ordered coffee. I got the Da Kanak Attack off the $8.08 menu, which is a three-egg omelet with onions, cheese and three kinds of meat. it looked small for a three-egg omelet, so I thought maybe they used small eggs rather than medium or large. The included country potatoes were sort of congealed into one big glop. I expected this to be better, but the prices here can't be beat!
A few nights ago we met another couple from California (they're everywhere, I tell you--everywhere! ) in the hot tub and they mentioned they might try this place out. Sure enough, they were waiting in line as we left!
Walking on Front Street heading back to the hotel, I ruminated about how much all of this will be missed. Sure, a part of the enjoyment was in knowing that, when here, we have no real responsibilities. But, a large part is that this is Maui, this is Lahaina. We love almost everything about this place.
It's sunny again today but would cloud up later in the day, as has been the pattern throughout much of the trip. It was a slightly different weather pattern than what we'd experienced in the past, but we still found it very nice. At least the VOG has been seldom felt here, and trade winds have prevailed much of the time, making for refreshing conditions.
After getting back to the hotel, Patty hit the sun, but I stayed in the room. I'm done with tanning. The desire I once had to get as brown as possible on every trip has waned somewhat. I have a nice base of a tan, and feel no need to add to it. It's been hot most days, and difficult to just lay in the sun doing nothing. There are better things to do.
Such as nap I do a good bit of this in the late mornings and early afternoons, but it has been, of late, constantly interrupted by work being done in room 435. They can only work from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., but it's still going on during the time of day when we like to relax in the room. The constant racket seriously messes with our relaxation, and was NOT on the list of construction sent to us by Chase N Rainbows. I'm curious as to why this is.
In preperation for tomorrow's return to Duluth, it was time to start packing, and most of it got done during the afternoon. At 4:30, I headed downstairs to print out the boarding passes for tomorrow's flights. I was hoping/wishing we would once again be designated TSA Pre-check, which would allow us to bypass a good chunk of the security crap such as taking off belts, taking off shoes, emptying out my camera bag into one of those damn grey containers. Having TSA-Pre check status made going through security in Minneapolis incredibly easy, and it was the second trip in a row we were allowed this "perk".
As luck would have it, we were designated as such!
With the passes printed out, we headed over to the Wharf Center at 5:15 to see if Down The Hatch would provide a better experience than we had there two years ago, when my Kalbi Ribs were such a disappointment. But first, we had to find a table, and the place was crazily crowded. Eventually, a big communal table opened up and we slid in. I went to the line to order our food. We started with the Lava Lava Shrimp, Patty ordered the Mermaid Tenders for herself and I ordered the Shrimp Tacos for me. Each item was fantastic! Total cost, pre-tip was only $43. Down The Hatch has more than redeemed themselves, in my eyes.

On our final night on Maui, we're both asleep by 10:00.
