State Park #2--Gooseberry Falls State Park
10/9/2004
There are 65 State Parks in Minnesota and Gooseberry Falls State Park is perhaps the most iconic (some could make an argument for Split Rock State Park further up the North Shore) with a wonderfall series of waterfalls and hiking trails to be explored. On this day, we checked out a few waterfalls before heading toward Lake Superior on the Gitchi Gummi Trail. This 1.2 mile loop runs above the Gooseberry River leading to a very nice viewpoint near Agate Beach on Lake Superior. It then turns inland, eventually rejoining the main trail near the Middle and Lower Falls.
In the autumn, the views can be extraordinary but it's an enjoyable hike any time of year.
