Hearts in Hawai'i
Our Trip to Maui (2014)--Day 15

When it comes to breakfast, the Sea House in Napili is probably our second favorite place on Maui, after the Pioneer Inn. They have killer views of Napili Bay, but they are more expensive than the Pioneer Inn--the quality of their food is also slightly lower. This morning's visit to the Sea House reaffirmed our opinion.
While flying from Duluth to Maui is somewhat inconvenient, considering you don't get to Maui until after 8 p.m., flying home is worse. Our flight won't leave Kahului until 10 p.m. Since we have to check out by 11 a.m., this means we have two options:
1. Drive around all day with our bags in our car
2. Leave the bags at the hotel (Lahaina Shores provides a room for you to do so), meaning that you have to return to Lahaina from wherever you spend that final precious day.
Neither option is pleasant. What makes it worse is that, with our flight home landing in Duluth at 4 p.m. the following day, it is a full 24 hours between hotel checkout and landing. This makes for a very long day!
We knew from the Chase N Rainbows website that nobody had reserved the room on the day we were to leave, so we stopped by their office to find out what their policy was on our staying in the room beyond the 11 a.m. checkout time. The lady at the office told us we had two options. First was to reserve the room for one more day for $155. The other was to call on the day before we left--if no one had reserved the room, we could stay in the room until 6 p.m. for $50. Sweet! Since this was the slow time of the year for Hawaiian tourism, we were confident this would work out.
Just when you think you've seen every stupid thing a tourist can do in their car, I saw a new one today; at the entrance to the garage at 505 Front Street, there is a sign saying the clearance is 6 feet--it's very visible for all to see. Obviously the clearance on this guy's vehicle was just a tad over six feet. I watched (and listened) in amusement as he scraped the top of his vehicle entering the garage. You would think that, once he heard the start of the scraping (this lasted a full five seconds), he would stop, back up, and look for another place to park. Not this guy! I'm hoping this guy didn't have CDW and had to explain to the rental company how he scraped the top of his vehicle like that. Bozo.
The rest of the day defined "lazy". I went for a walk down Front Street with camera in hand.
One of the questions people pose here is "Who has the better shave ice; Ulalani`s or Local Boys West?" To be honest, we don't know as we haven't tried either yet.

We then took a long nap, got up, sat on the lanai most of the afternoon people-watching until 4:30 when we walked over to Cool Cat Cafe for dinner.

This is a decent place for burgers--not up to par with Teddy's but adequate. Their burgers are big and tasty--I just think they charge too much here. On this visit, Patty wanted to sit inside the air-conditioned section. The atmosphere in this section is lacking--I prefer to sit near the railing in the open-air section where the views and people-watching are similiar to Captain Jack's Island Grill.
