Our Trip to Maui (2014)--Day 16
5/20/2014
Each time we visit Maui, we make it a point to drive to Wailea and visit the site of our 1996 wedding at Wailea Beach. Today was the day to make such a journey--it was sunny, hot and muggy, but that didn't stop us from walking the entire length of the Wailea Beachwalk. Well, I walked the entire length--Patty stopped and hung out at our wedding site while I continued on south to the Fairmont Kea Lani hotel. :)
Along the way, we stopped at two other beaches to see what they had to offer in the photo opportunity area.
Sugar Beach
There are beaches to be found on Maui, excellent beaches, which are nearly deserted at times. Sugar Beach is one of them.

There were some beaches we missed today, such as Makena (Big Beach) and Keawakapu.
After we were done exploring (the temps by now had soared closed to 90 degrees), we decided to drive back to Lahaina, stopping along the way at Leoda's Kitchen & Pie Shop. Their Pastrami & Swiss sandwich is second to no other sandwich I've had anywhere else! The only downside is that you wait awhile for your food--especially since we arrived at 11:30 a.m. and it was really starting to get busy. But their food is worth the wait. Likewise, Patty thought their Garden Salad was outstanding.

Tonight's dinner venue was Bistro Casanova, near the Queen Ka`ahumanu Mall in Kahului. It's a bit of a drive, but time and again we've shown that no drive is too short when the promise of a great meal is at the end of the rainbow! And once again, it was worth the trip.
The interior ambiance here is nice--no views outside to speak of. However, there is some outside seating. We had reservations for 6 p.m. Arriving a half hour early, we were immediately seated. Despite the floor plan being open, the noise level was quite acceptable. Helping this was the fact that it wasn't even half full despite it being prime dinner time. Patty claims this is due to it being the slow season for tourists, but I suspect this is a restaurant frequented primarily by locals. Unless you are looking specifically for this place, you won't see it if you are driving on any kind of main thoroughfare.
I started with the Caesar Salad and then move on to the Tagliatelle ala Bolognese. Patty had the Kaupo Salad featuring ribeye steak. Excellent on all counts!
It's not expensive here in the least, as our final bill came to $46 pre-tip. Service was cordial and efficient but somewhat aloof bordering on abrupt. I believe it was either the owner or manager who served us, and when he noticed the t-shirt I was wearing (Kimo's, and I have no idea why I wore that shirt to this restaurant!), he asked if I was the owner.

Overall, this was yet another excellent dinner at a place I'm sure we will be visiting in the future.
