Our Trip to Maui (2014)--Day 20
5/24/2014
We started the day off with a breakfast at our favorite breakfast eatery, the Pioneer Inn. We had wanted to go to the Castaway Cafe but Patty wanted oatmeal, and oatmeal isn't on their menu. It doesn't take much twisting of my arm to get me to the Pioneer Inn for breakfast! I got the three egg omelet with pepper jack cheese, bacon and Portuguese sausage--very good!
Otherwise, it was a very quiet day. No hiking, no more photography expeditions, no more activities. And this is how we tend to spend our final weekend on Maui, by hanging out on the lanai, by the pool, catching some sun.
A return to Honu Seafood & Pasta (went there in 2012) was on tap for tonight's dinner. Arriving just before our 6 p.m. reservation, we were immediately seated one table in from the "window", featuring great views of the ocean and Lanai in the distance. We were hoping to be treated to a wonderful sunset but once again, we were disappointed.
This was our second best dining experience during this trip (Cuatro was first). We started with a half-order of Ahi Bruschetta. I wasn't exactly keen to try this, not being the fish person, but this was an incredible appetizer! The way they prepared this, there was no fish taste, just yummy excellence. Patty followed this by ordering what I had two years ago, the Spicy Italian Sausage pizza. I got the Baby Romaine salad, Honu's variation on a Caesar Salad, and then had the Kobe Snake River burger, which has an 8-oz beef patty with applewood smoked bacon and caramelized onions. Everything we had was delicious! I finished our meal off with coffee. Gerry, our server, even took our picture at the end of our meal. Cost was $74, pre-tip, and it was worth every penny.

Happy at the end of the meal!
Back to the room, we needed to do a final two loads of laundry. While doing laundry a TV channel check revealed the 2014 Na Hoku Hanohano awards broadcast on KFVE-TV (K-five). This was very interesting to watch! Kupaoa did very well. Mailani was nominated for a few awards but didn't win any. Bummer--she has become one of my favorite Hawaiian artists.
It started raining at 9 p.m. tonight. No idea when it stopped.
