Our Trip To Maui (2016)--Day 5
5/18/2016

Breakfast was followed by taking Patty up to her morning workout. I took a short walk on the beach and then relaxed in the room before hitting the sun just before 10:00. It's hot today so I only manage about an hour and a half before getting a little cooked. There was leftover Chicken Parmesan for lunch and more relaxation in the afternoon, watching TV and napping. We grabbed our Slack Key show tickets and headed up to the Java Jazz bar/restaurant in Honokowai. The atmosphere here is a little different but in a nice way. Nobody else appeared to be eating but there were a number of people at the bar, seemingly locals.

They serve breakfast all day, so upon seeing the Mexican Omelet on the menu, my choice was obvious. And the omelet was very good with Chorizo sausage, cheese and tomatoes, but extremely salty. The breakfast potatoes served with the omelet were also good with onions and peppers included. Overall this was a nice dining experience.

After diner it was a quick drive up to the Sea House where we found on-street parking, arriving about an hour before the 6:45 opening of the doors for the concert. We spent some time at the Sea House bar, enjoying a Virgin Lava Flow (not very good), while chatting with a guy whose ex-wife is from Pipestone, MN. He just arrived from the West Coast and certainly looked like he had just stepped off a plane. You can usually see it in their eyes, that tired look, y'know.

After we parted company with this nice gentleman, we had a brief walk to the Aloha Pavillion where we were second in line behind a couple from the Big Island. They've attended this concert a number of times, and have really enjoyed this event. Finally the doors opened and we sat in the third row. There isn't a bad seat in the house, being the capacity is just over 200 people. Every place you sit features great visibility and sound.

George Kahumoku started off the concert with a good set of music. The much-anticipated Nathan Aweau was next and played a long set of his songs, including some of our favorites such as Mahinahina and Kaneohe. I was hoping he'd also play I`o, but it was not to be tonight. After a brief intermission, Nathan, George and a couple other musicians had a jam session which Patty and I really enjoyed.

It was a long concert, nearly 2 1/2 hours, and we left feeling that we certainly got our money's worth. This is an event we''ll probably be attending on a future trip.

By the time we got back to the Lahaina Shores, it was too late for a hot tub visit so we hit the sack without any TV.
