Our Trip To Maui (2016)--Day 10
5/23/2016
The day started with dropping Patty off at her workout venue, and then relaxing in the room while waiting for her to return. They are redoing the parking lot so everyone needs to park in the 505 garage until Wednesday, but I'm betting it will be Thursday.
Patty returned from her workout and we hit the road at 7:45 a.m. for a 9:30 Maui Gold Pineapple tour. This is up in Hali`imaile, a town we hadn't visited before and known for Bev Gannon's Hali`imaile General Store, reportedly one of upcountry's finest restaurants. We arrived at Maui Gold far in advance of the tour start and found a food truck parked on the property called Kama Hele Cafe so we try it out. I ordered a pulled pork sandwich with salad and fried rice. Excellent grinds!

The tour was a lot of fun. Mike, our tour guide, was very informative as we wheeled around the fields in a bus. There are about 20 or so of us on this tour and it took close to two hours. When we booked the tour a few months ago, there was an option available which let you add lunch at Hali`imaile General Store, but we didn't opt for that. Part of the tour included a box of four Maui Gold pineapples, so we'll be enjoying these over the next eight days!

When we did the Lahaina Tasting Tour earlier on our trip, we happened upon Lahaina Coolers. The place looked nice, the menu looked good so we decided to give this place a try tonight. It was a regrettable choice. We started with the Sizzling Shrimp appetizer. While this wasn't a bad choice, we've had better shrimp in other places. Patty ordered the Kula Greens salad and said it was okay. I thought the Spicy Azteca would be good. It wasn't. The taste of the shrimp was anything but fresh. When we plugged in our rating, this was our least favorite of the 18 restaurants we visited on this trip.
