Our Trip To Maui (2018)--Day 3
5/7/2018

Lahaina Shores Beach Resort

One of the "benefits" of jet lag, or that five hour time change, is you don't have to worry about sleeping too late on the first morning. Due to this, we were up at 2 a.m.! I grabbed a couple pieces of leftover Pi Artisan Pizza and we hung out in the room until walking over to the Pioneer Inn for a 7 a.m. breakfast. This tradition of eating breakfast at the Pioneer Inn the first morning of our Maui stay is a nice one, started ten years ago. It's always an enjoyable time, sitting in the open air, listening to Alex the bird squaking, taking in the early morning ambience of the area. The food here is always good and always very reasonably priced.

After checking out the various activity booths at the Lahaina Harbor, we walked the beach for a while. The sand here has changed, for some reason. It's not nearly as firmly packed as in past visits--it's now become softer, more along the lines of what vacationers like to see and play on. For walking purposes, it's a little tougher as you tend to sink into the sand more as you stroll. I'm not sure I like this, so I might have to check out walking on Front Street in upcoming days.

After the walk, it was time to relax. Patty headed over to the Whaler's General Store next door, finding a great deal on T-shirts, grabbing five of them for just $20. A great deal! Meanwhile, I did some sunning for about an hour before we returned to the room to chill out before heading over to Bubba Gumps for dinner.

Bubba Gumps, like the Pioneer Inn, has become a sort of tradition for us. We like to dine here on our first full day on Maui. I was a little disappointed that my favorite dish, the Lt Dan's Drunken Shrimp, was no longer on the menu. Mentioning this to the waitress, she said she can go back and see if they can make it for me, anyway. Nice! Between that and the side Caesar Salad I had, I left the place fairly stuffed.

Of course, our first night in Lahaina meant T-shirt shopping on the way back to the hotel--I bought two T-shirts and two muscle shirts. Clothing seems more expensive than in years passed, but hey, this is Maui! Nothing much is cheap here.

The required first visit to the hot tub followed, and rounded off a very nice first day in our favorite vacation location.
