Our Trip To Maui (2018)--Day 4
5/8/2018
There are traditions and routines we have developed over our ten previous trips to Maui, and how we started this day is one of my favorites. It starts with breakfast and coffee on the lanai, followed by a long walk on the beach. Or, in today's case, a long walk on Front Street, going all the way to the Cannery Mall and then returning. It was just over three miles and took about an hour to complete. Early morning is my favorite time to walk Front Street; not many people are out and the traffic is mostly comprised of locals on their way to work.
After I returned, Patty decided to head out on her own. I returned to the room and realize I had forgot my room key card! Luckily, she was right on the beach when I ran back downstairs, so I used her key to access the room. But the thing is, my key is gone! What the hell happened to it? I had it last night when we returned to the room after visiting the hot tub. Did Patty take it by mistake? I thought I had left it on the nightstand last night, so what the heck happened?
I was pissed, because it appeared I would have to call Chase N Rainbows and get a duplicate made (and probably charged for)--when I went down to the registration desk and told Allison about my problem, she produced a duplicate (free) in about ten seconds. What a sweetie she is!
Patty returned to the room while I was napping. I had been cross with her earlier in the process, so an apology was proffered. We then napped for a couple hours, I got up and showered and we headed south to Kihei and Coconut's Fish Cafe. A lot of hype surrounds this restaurant which has turned into a mini-chain with openings in Hawaii and California. We wanted to know if the food matched the hype.
It did and then some! It can get super busy here and for very good reason. I ordered the fish tacos and chicken tacos and we shared the two orders. You get two tacos in each order. With Mango salsa, cheese, seasonings, coleslaw and tomatoes, you also get a lemon to squeeze over the fish tacos. We loved them both, but especially the fish taco. I'm not a big fish person but man, these were fantastic! And quite a meal. I talked to one of the co-owners and mentioned Kalani Prince and his Aloha Stoked videos on Youtube. He said even people in the Hawaiian islands watch these videos. They're popular and very well done!
After a quick stop at Times Supermarket for a few grocery items where Patty finally found her Lipton Diet Iced Tea, we drove back to Lahaina. Traffic was much better than it had been on the drive south, when it was 5-10 mph on the Bypass from Launiupoko to Olowalu. The sunset looked to be promising so the tripod came out and I got some decent shots from the lanai. Patty said Front Street had been pretty busy this morning, mainly due to the Royal Caribbean Explorer of the Seas anchored offshore.
The remainder of the evening was spent with TV and relaxation.
