State Park #5--Jay Cooke State Park
9/1/2011

In driving terms, Jay Cooke State Park is the closest one to Proctor. Moose Lake is second, a mere 36 miles away down I-35. We arrived to find that many more leaves had fallen from trees in the week since we had hiked at Savannah Portage State Park. With the colors muted, we still enjoyed this park and had it mostly to ourselves.

There are basically two sections to this park. The section on the south side of County Road 137 is the main one with trails on the north and east side of Echo Lake. The northern section has two primary trails including the Hiking Club Trail called the Rolling Hills Trail. We chose the Echo Lake Trail, hiking most of the northern part.
