State Park #6--Banning State Park
9/7/2011
Banning State Park is a short and easy 55-mile drive south of Proctor, near the town of Sandstone off I-35. Most of the park lies just west of the Kettle River and has a few nice hiking options. We chose the Quarry Loop Trail which runs to the south from a primary parking area, and then returns back north on lower terrain closer to the river. On this trail you will find remains of a sandstone quarry (hence the name!). The lower return route features some nice views of the Kettle River and also a (for me at least) difficult climb which eventually rejoins the upper portion of the trail.
